Hello friends,
National Arts & Humanities Month was established by Americans for the Arts in 1993 and is celebrated every October in the United States. It was initiated to encourage Americans to explore new facets of the arts and humanities in their lives, and to begin a lifelong habit of participation in the arts and humanities. It has become the nation's largest collective annual celebration of the arts and its goals are:
FOCUSING on the arts at local, state, and national levels;
ENCOURAGING individuals and organizations to participate in the arts;
ALLOWING governments and businesses to show their support of the arts; and
RAISING public awareness about the role the arts and humanities play in our communities and lives.
In celebration, Americans for the Arts is having a #showyourart2017 challenge on Instagram @americans4arts. Each day there is a different theme for posting a photo. To start the month the theme for October 1st was RED. So I shared a photo of my abstract painting called "The Sunset", acrylic on 12x16 canvas. I wanted to approach the canvas without a preconceived idea and see where the brush strokes and colors would take me. Many times, before starting a painting, I spend a lot of time contemplating, planning and sketching what I am going to paint. This time I just wanted to let go and just flow. Well, this was the result and the process was very liberating.
The Sunset painting is available at www.raizeart.com on canvas or print. Remember to support the arts!
